
Welcome to Year 5
Welcome to Year 5, we have two classes which are 5H and 5W. Our PE days are Wednesday and Thursday, children should come to school in PE kit on those days. Homework and reading records will be collected on Mondays, and homework is handed out on Thursdays.

This week, Year 5 took part in an Online Safety Workshop where they had the opportunity to learn and ask questions about how to say safe online.

In P.E this week, the children have been working on their tennis skills. They have been practising their ability to control the ball, serve and using the proper grip.

The children in Year 5 created class books for World Book Day. They worked together to plan, write and draw the pictures for the finished product.

This week, Year 5 have used all of their cricket skills in a competitive game.

After reading, analysing and discussing a range of different stories from other cultures, the children have planned and created their own culture stories.

With a focus on fielding, the children were working on their throwing and catching skills in P.E this week.

A fabulous end to our Autumn term. Year 5 have completed a range of festive activities inspired by their history topic.

After a week of bar modelling, the children finished off by completing a range of puzzles and activities with their partners.

Thank you to all of the parents that attended the Year 5 Art workshop this week. The children, with the support of their parents, created a collagraph of one of their initials before adding additional designs and patterns.

This week in Year 5, the children celebrated the festival of Diwali by crafting and decorating their own Diwali lanterns!

This week in Year 5, the children have been completing research on the Golden Age of Islam. They have created a double-page spread on a variety of different elements, such as: hygiene, medication, education and science.

This week in Year 5, the children have taken part in Black History Month by learning about the life of Nelson Mandella and creating a fact file.

In year 5 this week, the children have working on their literacy skills by creating a variety of sentence types.

This week, year 5 have been learning about what makes a good friend and how to deal with conflict.

The children in Year 5 have competed a writing assessment where they have written a story in the style of Michael Morpurgo. They included themes such as war, friendship and loss to support their ideas.

During Science week, the children in year 5 conducted their own experiment around the question, 'Does the size of an object impact the time it takes to fall?'. The children crafted and then used a paper spinner to conduct their experiments.

After watching a fantastic production of Treasure Island, the children in Year 5 took part in a workshop where they were given the opportunity to learn more about the cast, costumes, lighting and even had the opportunity to do some acting themselves.

With a focus on mental health, the children explored the importance of emotional resilience. They created a traffic light system for dealing with extreme emotions.

In preparation for creating a clay pot next week, the children have been practising slabbing and scoring to help them with their final creations. They used the new techniques to help them make a prototype design.

The children returned to school on Tuesday this week with a focus on diversity! They created a booklet all about themselves celebrating their differences.

This week, year 5 have been writing some persuasive sentences. They have used appealing adjectives, exaggeration and rhetorical questions to motivate the reader.

With a focus on what makes a healthy diet, the children created their own poster of the different food groups and why they are important to a balanced diet.

Anti-bullying week has allowed our children to think about the effects of bullying inside and outside the classroom. The children then created an acrostic poem about this year's Anti-bullying theme, 'Choose Respect'.

This week in Year 5, the children created their own Diva lamps in celebration of Diwali. After initially painting their lamps, the children decorated their creations with a range of shapes and patterns.

This week, Year 5 have discussed the importance of mental wellbeing and creating solutions to support themselves when feeling a specific emotion.

This week, Year 5 have created their own street dance routines. They have implemented cannoning, moving in unison with one another and rhythm.

This week in Science, Year 5 have been using thermochromic paper to identify whether different everyday school objects can be used as conductors or insulators.
